Interactive Activities at GTC

  • A man with a white beard, maroon sweater, and tan GTC ballcap smiles at the camera. He is holding a choya geode with a bright purple amethyst interior in front of a geode cracking machine.

    Geode Cracking

There is just something special about cracking open one of these rather ordinary looking rocks and discovering the treasures hidden inside!

A great activity for summer camps, youth groups, and more! Great for birthday parties too!

Activity is open to public during store hours. Geodes priced individually; cracking included!

Have a uncracked geode sitting around? Feel free to bring it in! We love the surprise as much as you do!

Please note that we have the right to use our discretion on if we are able to crack non-GTC geodes, as solids could potentially damage our cracker.

  • A smiling woman with long brown hair stands in front of our mining flume. The flume is made of wood and is surrounded by cases containing various mineral specimens.

    Gem & Fossil Mining

PLEASE NOTE: Our last weekend for the flume will be November 23 & 24th, 2024. Mining will reopen January 11 & 12, 2025.

Nothing beats the pure joy of hands-on discovery! Experience the fun and excitement of mining for real gemstones, minerals, fossils, and other treasures.

We offer a variety of different bucket options stocked full of rocks, minerals, and fossils! Please call ahead to confirm availability of non-standard ore. Buckets range from $12-98. Our standard "Gem Miner" bucket is $24.

    Open to the public:
Saturdays: 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Sundays: 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Please note that for safety reasons we are unable to run the flume when there are lightning strikes in the area! In instances where we must shut down the flume while participants are still mining, participants have the option to wait for storms to move out of the area and resume mining or to receive a refund.
